From Dairy Farms to Ice Cream Dreams

I grew up in Orange County, New York, on a dairy farm in the small town of Circleville. Life on the farm wasn’t just about work—it was about values, community, and a deep admiration for the land and the cows that made it all possible. After school, I took over the family farm, becoming the fourth generation dairy farmer in my family.

Soon after, Amy and I started our own family on the farm, and life was as sweet as fresh cream. But as times changed, so did the farming industry. My parents eventually transitioned from farming to running an ice cream shop—a move that planted the first seeds of what would one day become Dell’s Dairy Bar.

Finding Our Forever Farm

Determined to raise our kids on the farm like I had been, we decided to relocate to an area where dairy farming was thriving. After an extensive search (and a few detours), we found our forever farm in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. There, we established BMB Farm LLC and spent the next 20 years milking over 50 cows, raising calves, and living the dairy life. It was hard work, but it was deeply rewarding.

As our children grew and started carving their own paths, Amy and I knew it was time for a new chapter. In 2018, we sold the farm and followed our long-held dream of moving to Virginia. We landed on a small farm in Rice, VA, bringing a few of our beloved cows with us to keep the tradition alive.

The Story of Dell

Among those cows was Dell, born in September 2020—a sweet, gentle heifer who quickly earned a special place in our hearts. At first, we weren’t sure if we would keep her, but she had a way of winning us over. Naming our new business after Dell felt like the perfect tribute to our farming roots and the dairy industry that’s been such a big part of our lives.

From Cow to Cone: Dell’s Dairy Bar is Born

In 2022, we noticed a gap in Farmville—there wasn’t an ice cream shop! Inspired by our love for dairy and the community, we decided to take the leap and bring something sweet to town. By the spring of 2024, Dell’s Dairy Bar was open, blending our passion for farming, ice cream, and people into one joyful experience.

At Dell’s, we’re not just serving scoops—we’re sharing a piece of our story. Our goal is to bring the community together, one cone at a time, while honoring the rich history of dairy farming.
